Meet Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan – Pioneering Multi-Organ Transplant Surgeon Specializing in Liver, Kidney, and Combined Transplantation

Dr. Narasimhan holds an MBBS from Kilpauk Medical College and an MS in General Surgery from Madras Medical College. She further specialized through an ASTS Fellowship in multi-organ transplantation at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, and received training in living donor liver transplantation in Japan.

Her clinical interests include combined liver-kidney transplantation, pediatric renal transplantation, and renal protective immunosuppression strategies. She has been an integral part of Prof. Mohamed Rela’s team since 2009 and currently serves as a Senior Consultant in Liver and Renal Transplant Surgery at Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Chennai.

Dr. Narasimhan’s contributions to transplantation have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the Association of Surgeons of India (2001), the Congress of Asian Society of Transplantation (2003), and the International Liver Transplantation Society (2016). In 2022, she was honored with the “Woman Leader in Transplantation” award by The Transplantation Society.
